Getting started

  1. Open the theme’s page in the Shopify Theme Store while you are logged in to your store.
  2. Select Try theme to add a free trial copy to your store, or buy the theme. Either way, it is added to your theme library in the Shopify admin under Online Store > Themes.
  3. Select Customize next to the theme to open it in the theme editor. Your store keeps showing its current theme until you publish the new one.

A theme purchase covers one store. To use the theme on another store, buy it for that store too.

Make a copy first, and work on the copy:

  1. In Online Store > Themes, open the … (Actions) menu next to the theme.
  2. Select Duplicate. The copy appears in your theme library.

The copy is your safety net: if a change goes wrong, the original is still there. Duplicate again before larger changes, before you edit theme code and before an update.

  • Learn the theme editor basics.
  • Read your theme’s documentation in the sidebar: every section, block and theme setting, with the labels the editor shows.
  • Publish the theme when it is ready: Online Store > Themes, … (Actions) > Publish.
