Updating a theme
When a new version of the theme is released, Shopify shows it in Online Store > Themes: the theme shows that an update is available. Each theme’s changelog lists what changed in every version.
Before you update
Section titled “Before you update”- Duplicate the theme (see Getting started) so you can go back if something looks wrong.
- Read the theme’s changelog for removed or changed settings.
Update
Section titled “Update”- In Online Store > Themes, open the update notice on the theme and select the option to update.
- Shopify adds the new version to your theme library as a separate theme. It keeps the settings and content you set in the theme editor.
- Open the new version with Customize and check your pages on desktop and mobile.
- Publish it when you are happy with it.
What is not carried over
Section titled “What is not carried over”Changes made to the theme’s code (in Edit code) are not moved to the new version. Make a note of them before you update and apply them again, or ask the person who made them.
